Ericsson called to rebuild Dynamo

As it became known to Sport Today, the ex-coach of England Sven-Goran Ericsson is at the final stage of negotiations with Dynamo Kyiv. His arrival in the Ukrainian club may be announced on May 12.

As it became known to the Kiev correspondent of Sport Today, Sven-Goran Ericsson is at the final stage of negotiations with Kiev Dynamo. If the last round of negotiations, scheduled for May 12, is successful, then it will be the Swede who will prepare the team for the next season. According to sports.ru, the firm decision to change Anatoly Demyanenko, the head of the team at the moment, was made by a notable foreign specialist in Kiev last fall, after the failure of the team in the Champions League, but for a long time they could not reach an agreement with the candidates for this post. One of them, as you know, was Ottmar Hitzfeld, who eventually led Bavaria. The determination of Kievans to get a West European specialist on the coaching bridge did not quench even during the current Ukrainian championship, in which Dynamo is confidently leading .

The last place of work for the 59-year-old Swede was the England team, which Ericsson headed from 2001 to June 2006 and which he left two years before the end of the contract under incredible pressure from the press. Partly the excitement around him was created by the team’s unconvincing game that did not justify the aspirations of the British, partly by a series of publications of English tabloids about Ericsson’s personal life and about his negotiations with the “fake sheikh” about moving to Aston Villa (the journalist News of the pretended to be sheikh World, which eventually published all the details of the “negotiations” on the pages of the weekly).

If Ericsson does not change his mind to accept Dynamo, Ukraine will become the fifth country in his busy coaching career. He became famous in the Swedish “Gothenburg”, with which he won the UEFA Cup in 1982. From the 82nd to the 84th and from the 89th to the 92nd, he headed Benfica, with which he won the championship and the Portuguese Cup, and also ended up in the finals of the UEFA Cup and Cup of Cups. But Ericsson gained the greatest fame in Italy, where he consistently worked with Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Lazio. With Lazio, he won the Italian Cup in 1998 and 2000, as well as the Cup and Scudetto Cup of 2000 - this was the most brilliant period in the history of the Roman club.
