The first swallows of spring

The first coaching resignation occurred in the Russian Premier League: Pavel Yakovenko was fired from the Kuban. The reason has a rather convincing digital expression - after five rounds, without winning a single match, the Krasnodar team was in last place. In place of Yakovenko came Leonid Nazarenko, already working in the "Kuban". “Sport Today” escorts one coach and meets another.

Pavel Aleksandrovich Yakovenko

Main coach

Metallurg Nikopol / 1994-95
Uralan / 1996-97, 1999
Youth national team of Ukraine / 1999-00
Khimki / 2005
Kuban / 2006 - April 2007

Pavel Yakovenko, who played in Dynamo Kyiv under the leadership of Valery Lobanovsky, inherited in many respects his coaching style - rational play, ball control, pressure and bet on excellent physical shape due to increased loads. Having made his debut as a coach at Nikopol Metallurg, Yakovenko moved to Elista and a few years later brought Uralan to the Premier League. The debut in the elite did not work out - five defeats in a row and not a single goal scored became the reason for his early resignation. From that moment, Yakovenko almost stopped giving interviews, limiting himself to press conferences.

Having moved to his homeland, Yakovenko led two junior national teams of Ukraine, one of which made its way to the 2005 World Cup. However, in the process of preparation, the coach unexpectedly left both posts for the post of the steering “Khimki”, whose president was then Andrey Chervichenko. Despite the enhanced training regimen (up to four times a day), Yakovenko could not bring Khimki to the Premier League, and lost to CSKA in the Russian Cup final. The following season, he headed the “Kuban”, inviting there several leading players of the Moscow Region club - Ivanov, Yanbaev, Asildarov, and later Danishevsky.

“Kuban” reached the Premier League, taking second place in the first division. The first five matches in the elite were better for Yakovenko's club than in 1999 (3 draws, 2 defeats, goal difference 4: 6), but his team never won and took the last line of the tournament table. The newspaper Blik predicts the imminent appointment of Yakovenko as a coach of one of the teams of the Ukrainian Major League.
