Wesley Snyder: “Russians need to advertise their football”

In an interview with Sport Today, Dutch midfielder Wesley Snyder, the author of one of the goals against Akinfeev, spoke about the experiments of Hiddink and van Basten and explained why the Dutch refused to go to Russian clubs.

- You have not forgotten the match against the Russian team last Wednesday?

- Of course not. How can I forget the game that we won so big and where I scored a goal.

- What was it - a duel of the Dutch two coaches or an ordinary friendly game?

- It seems to me that the match has benefited both us and the Russians - despite the score. Both teams were able to check what they are capable of, what place they occupy in European football and what condition the players are in. This game, for example, showed how your players can be taken by surprise. And our team understood how to cope with such an unstable team. And now in games with other teams you will not repeat the mistakes made on February 7, but we will use the tricks with which we were able to defeat you in less than 20 minutes. Of course, this match was an experiment - both from one side and the other. Both trainers varied composition and tactics. Probably most friendly matches are a test of strength, not a duel.

- What can you say about the game of the defenders of the Russian national team and the goalkeeper?

- I don’t know much about them, but before the first goal scored, the defense looked great.

- Do you know that your teammate Ryan Babel has already tried several times to acquire the Moscow Spartak, and the St. Petersburg Zenit offered contracts to other players of your team? But they all refused to move to Russia. Only two Dutchmen play in our Premier League: Quincy Ovusu Abeye and Fernando Rixen. Tell me, why is it so difficult for the Dutch to lure to Russia?

- I think our players are new to Russian football. We know little about your clubs, players ... If the Dutchman moves to a Russian club, then most likely he will fall into an unusual atmosphere. Try to advertise your football and clubs in Europe more, and then legionnaires from different countries will reach you. In addition, the Dutch always have offers from other countries and, accordingly, other career prospects.

- Is it important for a Dutch national team player to defeat a national team coached by his compatriot?

- No, this fact does not attach any additional significance to the victory. We don't care who to beat.
