Chronicle of the undeclared war

After another tragedy - the death of a policeman during a Sicilian derby in Catania - the calcho was sent for an extraordinary vacation. A chronicle of the ongoing Italian football war is on Sports.ru.

February 1995 Twelve years ago, the Italian championship was already suspended. Sunday February 5, 1995 turned out to be free from the planned games due to the death of a Genoa fan Vincenzo Spagnolo. He died during the riots at the match of “Genoa” - “Milan” a week earlier.

October 1997 After the Atalanta-Brescia match, local Ultras engaged in several fights with police in the center of Bergamo, as a result of which a police officer was seriously injured by a firecracker and 13 tiffozi were arrested.

October 1997 40 English fans arrested in central Rome for participating in clashes with the Italian on the eve of the 1998 World Cup match Italy - England. The British government expressed indignation at the actions of the Italian police, who were unable to extinguish the conflict in time and punished only the British as a result.

October 1998 The North Derby in the C1 series “Varese” - “Como” led to large-scale clashes of tiffozi of these clubs outside the stadium. 32 fans (seven of them minors) were arrested.

October 1999 The police failed to cope with law enforcement on the eve of another derby, this time the Tuscan - “Pisa” - “Livorno”. As a result of skirmishes with the use of “Molotov cocktails” that took place throughout the city, hundreds of millions of lire were damaged (broken windows, burned-out cars and motor cars). If the Leaning Tower of Pisa had not been falling by that time, it would have squinted once more.

October 1999 The match of the Italian Cup Sampdoria - Bologna was preceded by an almost two-hour war of local fans with the police at the stadium "Marasii", as a result of which several representatives of both sides went to the hospital, and a dozen cars were recognized as irreparable.

March 2000 The Leeds fan suffered a knife blow as a result of a skirmish on the eve of the UEFA Cup match Roma - Leeds.

June 2001 The Sicilian derby “Messina” - “Catania” on June 17 brought another tragedy: during a fan clash during the explosion of one of the firecrackers, the 24-year-old tiffozo of the hosts Antonio Curro was seriously injured. Two weeks later, he died in a hospital.

September 2003 The 20-year-old Napoli tiffozo, Sergio Ercolano, died in the fall from the second tier of the rostrum of Avellino Stadium during the Avellino series B match - Napoli.

March 2004 The Roman derby has always been one of the hottest in the Apennines - if not the most. This time tiffozi “Roma” and “Lazio”, in fact, acted on the same side, choosing the Roman police as their opponent. The skirmishes were started by a rumor spread around Stadio Olimpico that during a break a police car crushed one of the fans, allegedly a little boy, near the arena. Ultimately, this information turned out to be false, but the stands had already exploded - almost literally. The battle resulted in 24 injuries (14 from the fans, and 10 from the police) and a broken second half.

September 2004 In the same place, in Rome, the Swedish referee Andres Frisk suffered, who serviced the match of the Champions League “Roma” - “Dynamo” (Kiev). At the end of the first half, with a score of 0: 1, a lighter fired from the podium cut the referee's forehead. In the locker room, seams were laid, and the second half of the match was not played.

April 2005 When in the 71st minute of the second quarterfinal match of the Champions League “Inter” - “Milan” (0: 1), the German referee Markus Merck canceled the goal of “Nerazzurri” Cambiasso for only one reason known to him. In fact, the duel ended on this. Tiffozi “Inter”, who were outside the gates of Milanese Dida, threw his penalty box with plastic bottles, umbrellas, lighters, firecrackers and smoke bombs. One of the firecrackers hit the goalkeeper in the shoulder. 25 minutes after a forced pause, Merck tried to continue the game, but nothing came of it. Abbyati also came under fire, replacing the wounded Dido. The judge again interrupted the meeting - this time for good.

January 2007 During a match of amateur teams of the third category, the representative of the Sammartineze club, Ermano Likursi, who inadvertently intervened in a brawl of fans who ran onto the field, was killed. An ominous omen: Yesterday's duel in Catania began with a moment of silence about this tragedy ...
