Out of career results

You can’t blame the coach of the Russian youth team Yevgeny Popikhin that his team brought “just” silver from the World Championships in Sweden. However, in Russian hockey history, the final place almost never became a reason for dismissal. Coaches were removed for other reasons. “Sport today” recalls by what, and at the same time, what career these specialists did.

1993. 6th place. Yuri Moiseev

One of the patriarchs of Soviet hockey left himself, taking responsibility for the result. In addition, he realized that he could not work correctly with young people. Then he proved himself in Ak Bars. Anyway, if we exclude the last year or two career, when he was a consultant in the Kazan club, showed a high coaching class. He died in 2005.

1994. 3rd place. Gennady Tsygurov

They expected medals from Tsygurov, and he brought them. And then he left on his own initiative, as he wanted to concentrate on working with a team of masters. However, he was always in the gold reserve.

1995. 2nd place. Igor Dmitriev

1996. 3rd place. Igor Dmitriev

Dmitriev’s work was found to be satisfactory. But he could not continue it for health reasons. He was an intelligent trainer. He successfully practiced in the team, but in “Wings of the Soviets” he did not succeed. The situation was not easy, the team became a beggar. Once Dmitriev even sold a car to distribute money to the players. He died in 1997.

1997. 3rd place. Peter Vorobiev

1998. 2nd place. Peter Vorobiev

Vorobyov has always been considered the best specialist for working with young children. But, firstly, he was not able to win gold. Secondly, club leaders began to look with displeasure as the person to whom they paid was distracted by outside work.

1999. 1st place. Gennady Tsygurov

Tsygurov turned out to be a difficult year. He scandalized at Lada, from where he was eventually fired. And it was difficult to get distracted by youth too. In addition, the coach reasonably considered that it was better to leave the champion. Now Tsygurov works in Chelyabinsk Tractor and has a reputation as a representative of the old Soviet school, which is not able to win anything.

2000. 2nd place. Peter Vorobiev

2001. 7th place. Peter Vorobiev

Vorobiev disgraced at the home world championship. And that he remained in the team, there was no question. After that, he achieved good success at the club level. For example, with Lada, he won silver when the team was noticeably inferior in composition to competitors. Now she works in the rich Chemist, but it’s too early to talk about success.

2002. 1st place. Vladimir Plyushchev

Until then, a little-known coach suddenly won, washing off the shame of others in 2001. After that, Plushenko expected to get a decent job in the team of masters. But his career did not work out. On the wave of success, he worked at Ak Bars, the Russian national team, Severstal. But nowhere is it entrenched. Now back to basics, taking the junior team under the wing.

2003. 1st place. Rafail Ishmatov

2004. 5th place. Rafail Ishmatov

Ishmatov resigned from the national team after a scandal involving a low place, as well as indirect accusations that he took to the team to pull. In 2003, there was nothing like this. But for the next season, having a huge credit of trust, Ishmatov almost independently formed the composition. Evil languages say that the list was dictated to him by agents who sought to increase the rating of their customers. Now Ishmatov works in St. Petersburg Spartak, the poorest club in Russia. However, they say that from next season he will have a new owner.

2005. 2nd place. Valery Bragin

He achieved a good result. But he left the team because of the desire to focus on club work and earn decent money. After that he worked at Spartak, but with varying success. Last year he was resting, not finding a job. And they called him into dysfunctional groups. Now again on Spartak salary. Preparing to play with the team in the Super League.

2006. 2nd place. Sergey Mikhalev

Appointed to the national team in strange circumstances. I was looking for a club, but could not find it. He was offered to work in an orphan "youth team" - agreed. As soon as the opportunity appeared to be in the team of masters, he immediately left. He is considered a business manager who can “put together a gang” of experienced hockey players. Once it brought success - second place with Severstal. Now in “Salavat Yulaev”. The team has many age players, but they are unlikely to win medals.

2007. 2nd place. Evgeny Popikhin

A well-known hockey player in the past works as the second coach at Lokomotiv. Youth World Cup is unlikely to give an impetus to his career. But in principle, Popikhin did not mind working on his own. Although, perhaps, he will be left in the national team.
