Butterfly Effect

American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. became the two-time world champion, taking away the WBC welterweight title from 35-year-old Argentinean Carlos Baldomir. Now the unofficial title of Floyd - the best boxer, regardless of weight category - sounds more convincing.

The sunset of the unique Roy Jones Jr., who for many years was considered the best professional boxer regardless of weight, immediately spawned the search for a new king. Who is the most talented, technical, fast, accurate? Searched not for long.

The youngest from the American boxing dynasty of Mayweathers, Floyd spent 36 fights in the professional ring before meeting with Baldomir and won all (24 knockouts). But it is not so much the track record of this boxer that attracts, but its versatility. The American knows how to pick up the keys to any rivals, no matter how their styles vary. And at the same time, hesitate to act as the second number.

The battle with Carlos Baldomir promised Floyd a new hard test of universalism. It is difficult to find other rivals in the world boxing, as different as these. Slow and not too rich technically, but incredibly stubborn and stubborn Argentine champion - against a sharp, fast and accurate American.

Realizing that defeating Mayweather on points was an almost impossible task, Baldomir launched an attack from the first seconds, hoping for his famous iron chin and fist strength. The American, without being stewed, immediately gave up the initiative and responded with short strokes, correctly using blocks. Baldomir pressed more and more, sometimes literally pressed Floyd to the ropes. But he did not think to panic, over and over again dodging and responding with mild but accurate blows. And so - round after round. Spectators from time to time began to whistle at their favorite. They clearly expected more aggressiveness from Mayweather, and certainly not a lesson for beginner boxers on effective defense against a more powerful opponent.

If you recall the famous aphorism of Ali: “Flutter like a butterfly, sting like a bee”, then Mayweather was more a butterfly this evening than this creature of God itself. All his tireless movements, dives, oncoming attacks, it seemed, could cause the total twists of the tornado. As a result, the American hyperactivity for the entire battle reached the goal of a few strokes of Baldomir. But Carlos missed threats regularly, which is why insignificantly, but lost in every round.

The exchange of blows in the final segment turned out to be very indicative. Backing away, Mayweather performed three consecutive swift left swings right at Baldomir’s head. He answered first with a series of punches, then with left side attacks. But all this is casual, without causing any harm to the American. As a result, Floyd became so bold that he spent the last ten seconds of the battle with the winner’s hand raised.

And not one of the three judges found reasons to disagree, having awarded Mayweather a victory in each of a dozen rounds: 119-110, 120-108, 119-110.
