Svetlana Zhurova after the victory in Turin made a 180-degree turn. Instead of the desired rest at home in Vsevolozhsk, an athlete tried to get on the post of president of the Russian Skating Union (SKR) last weekend. However, she did not manage to gain a single vote. The delegates to the reporting and election conference held in Nizhny Novgorod extended Vladimir Komarov’s powers for another four years. He was given 38 votes, with three abstentions and one against.
Apparently, the energy discharge from Zhurova in Turin did not happen. After two years of break, Svetlana is able to reach the first positions in the ice sprint, only two doubted: she and her coach Vladimir Filippov. But the victory at the Olympic rink only added new forces - Zhurova was actively engaged in public work. She was appointed as the sports director of the Sochi 2014 Olympic bid committee and approached her duties as a professional organizer. At the same time I entered the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation in order to receive the necessary managerial education.
And after much deliberation, she decided to take another adventure - to compete with Vladimir Komarov in the elections of the leadership of the TFR. The head of the federation has been practicing skating for 12 years and has earned significant authority. In the overwhelming success of our skaters at the last Olympics, which Zhurov also contributed to, there is his merit.
It is difficult to resist such an opponent. And Zhurova’s decision was not easy - she sent an application on the last day of receiving applications. The main reason why Svetlana took part in the elections was the desire to have the power to solve the pressing problems of speed skating. At the same time, according to the champion, her candidacy was supported by the leaders of Russian sports and her fellow athletes, Olympic winners. One of the main points of Zhurova’s election program was the intensification of work with children and coaches in the regions and the search for sponsors, for which she was going to first tour the regions and negotiate with local authorities.
Nevertheless, the delegates gathered in Nizhny Novgorod considered her plans too ambitious. Most votes were cast in favor of Vladimir Komarov. German Panov, vice president of the TFR, also claimed the post of president, but he withdrew.
The outcome of the vote did not upset Zhurova. The athlete is not going to finish the performance. Including at the rink.
