Save the giant

In anticipation of Saturday's fight between Nikolai Valuev and Monte Barrett, “SPORT Today” warns the Russian giant from repeating the most famous mistakes of his legendary prototypes.

Lesson 1. Goliath

Biblical Goliath was a Philistine warrior, originally from the ancient city of Ghat, and lived in the 11th century BC. According to the first book of Kings, the army of the Philistines entered Judea, but did not attack the Jews, but camped. Goliath stepped forward - a huge warrior (the Bible says he is taller than three meters), dressed in heavy copper armor. He offered the Jews a condition: if in the army of Israel there is a man who can defeat him, then the Philistines will submit to the Jews.

For 40 days, Goliath went out into the field waiting for the opponent, until the call was accepted by the young shepherd David, who volunteered to fight him. David refused armor and weapons, took with him only a staff and five smooth stones from the nearest stream. Goliath was indignant that a young man was put up against him with a stick in his hand. And David ran towards him and threw a stone from the sling, hitting the giant directly in the forehead. Then, having drawn a sword from a defeated enemy, he cut off his head.

Conclusion. Not to lose ground under their feet in the wake of great victories and popularity, so that after a couple of years the fans do not have to look for the name Valuev at the end of a long list of boxing ratings.

Lesson 2. Argus

Argus Pantoptes (All-Seeing) in ancient Greek mythology is a giant with eyes all over his body, a faithful servant of Hera, wife of Zeus. He was an excellent guard: while several of his eyes were asleep, the rest were open. The main merit of Argus to the gods of Olympus was the murder of the mother of all monsters - Echidna. The last task that Argus received from Hera was to protect a white cow.

But the giant loyal to the mistress did not even realize that in fact this cow was the enchanted nymph Io. Zeus cheated on his wife with this beauty, and once, being taken by surprise, turned her into a cow. Upon learning that Hera placed Io under the protection of a giant, Zeus instructed the god Hermes to remove the obstacle to his love. Hermes put all eyes to Argus with boring talk and killed the giant.

Conclusion. Do not trust everything that they say, including people who obsessively stuff up as friends and repeat the same thing every day: “Nikolay, you are the eighth wonder of the world! I will make you fabulously rich! ”Etc.

Lesson 3. Svyatogor

The hero from the Russian epics Svyatogor spent his life in foreign mountains, because his native land could not bear its weight. He said that he could tumble down the pillar on which the sky rests, and boasted that he could mix “the earthly with the heavenly”, “be translated by forces with heavenly force”:

If there was a pillar in the vastness of the earth,

Yes, if he reached heavenly heights,

Yes, if there was a ring in this post,

I would turn the whole earthly subunit!

God punished Svyatogor for trying to solve an impossible task, and turned it into a mountain that supports the firmament.

Conclusion. Stop in time. You won’t earn all the money, you won’t win all the rivals. Although to support the firmament in retirement, having also become a hero of epics and legends, is not the most shameful fate.
