Mikhailo Pyanovich: “My last injury is a fiction”

A newcomer to Rostov told Sport Today a correspondent about Fedotov’s coaching methods, his fictional injury, and Spartak’s training level.

- Did you leave Spartak of your own free will or did you get fired?

- I left myself. I wanted to go to the club where I will play. In Spartak, I didn’t even sit on the bench, but simply did not get into the application. Fedotov used the scheme with two forwards - Pavlyuchenko and Cavenagi, but he did not even give me a chance to replace. When the Argentinean did not score again, Vladimir Grigoryevich put him on the bench, but instead of paying attention to me, he let Bazhenov or Dziuba out, or even played with one forward. It seemed that the coach had completely forgotten that his club had a striker by the name of Pyanovich.

“And you didn’t even try to remind him of this?”

“Of course I tried.” I worked hard in training and several times asked Fedotov to put me as the basis. But he answered me that not a single player in Spartak can guarantee himself a place at the base, including me. I do not argue, he did not promise anything concrete, but after training I was not even among the spare ones. One day I was tired of it, and I told him and the guys that I wanted to leave.

“So it seems you were injured last fall.” At least that's what the news reported.

- No, I was absolutely healthy. All the information that I do not go out on the field due to an injury is a complete fiction. By the way, you are not the first to recall my alleged injury. Throughout the fall, I was ready for every match, but the coach believed that the team would manage without me.

“Has Fedotov not even hinted at the reasons for this attitude towards you?”

- Not. I have already repeated his words to you. I personally decided to find out why Fedotov does not allow me to play - he could not explain himself. I had two versions: the limit on legionnaires and tactical reasons. Maybe Fedotov really attached great importance to the player’s nationality and was afraid to accidentally exceed the limit, because instead of me players with a Russian passport entered the field. Or he decided to teach Spartak to play according to a new tactic with one striker. Maybe he considered it unreasonable to put forward two tall players? I dont know! Both versions have the right to exist, but only Fedotov himself can give the correct answer to this question.

- Why did you choose Rostov?

- I liked very much the reviews of my Serb friends Viesstica, Krushchich and Tanasievich about the city and the team. And during the negotiations, I realized that the club is very interested in me. After meeting with the head coach of Rostov, I was convinced that I would be in the main team. I had offers from other Russian clubs and from abroad, including from Serbia. But I firmly decided not to return, and I refused the rest of the clubs on the advice of the friends I already mentioned. And there were no other proposals too tempting. There was only a year left until the end of my contract with Spartak, and in such conditions it is very difficult to go to a decent club. But I succeeded. Compared to others, Rostov looked the most attractive option.

- And the competition among the forwards is weaker there than in Spartak.

- Why do you think so? Is there a competition in the line of attack in Spartak now?

- Last year was.

- For “Rostov” are also good forwards. The fact that Spartak is a more titled club does not affect the competition for a place in the squad. I went on the field in Spartak, and then, for unknown reasons, I was deprived of this right. I do not want to talk about Spartak anymore - all this is in the past. Now I only think about my new club. I like it more in Rostov. Here, the training is of European level, although all the club employees are Russians.

- And in “Spartak” what is the level of training?

- Honestly, I don’t remember.
