Recently, an interesting research has been published online, the purpose of which is to study the connection between the place of a musical composition in top music services (in particular, Spotify) and the amount of contributions to the author or authors of this composition. This is primarily about the playlist "Today's Top Hits" from Spotify. He currently has about 20 million followers, and getting there is “fraught” with an increase in royalties up to hundreds of thousands of US dollars and even higher. More specifically, on average, amounts range from $ 116,000 to $ 163,000.

In addition, getting into the playlist plays an almost decisive role in promoting the author of the song and the composition itself. So, for example, if a song falls into the playlist “New Music Friday”, then this increases the number of melody listening to 14 million. And this is statistics only in the USA - if you take the whole world, the results are probably even more impressive.

As for the “New Music Friday” playlist, it includes about 50 tracks recommended by the service itself. The list includes songs from around the world. It includes, among other things, works by independent authors and labels, for which the increase in awareness and the number of auditions is, in fact, a start in life.

The study was conducted by several organizations under the auspices of the European Commission. Initially, the goal was to evaluate the success of the songs that fall into the playlist (one of the most popular) Spotify. The European officials wanted to find out how the musicians feel in order to come up with any proposal in case of problems. As for the research itself, among other things, the scientists analyzed:

The study of Spotify and similar services, although it had been done before, was shallow. Now scientists have a specific goal, which they tried to achieve by conducting a detailed study of the work of the service and its interaction with the authors. In principle, the work is quite important, because it really allows you to understand how Spotify helps the musicians.

The results turned out to be quite interesting, they will be able to use both the musicians themselves and the labels that own the rights to the music. In addition, many of the details may be useful and ordinary users who listen to music on Spotify only from time to time.

In principle, without any research, it can be said that over the past couple of decades the data transmission technology in the network has become extremely popular among a wide range of users. Among others, it turned out to be beneficial for music makers - mostly, probably, major labels, who own all the rights to perform a particular composition.

Currently, about 35 million tracks are available on Spotify, which you can listen to at any time. In theory, the service allows music lovers to listen to the compositions of new authors, and not just well-known labels. The service, in fact, gives the opportunity to go to the top of many works, and their authors - to become popular.

But how to choose among all these tens of millions of compositions that you might like? Spotify offers users a specialized service that provides individual selection of tunes. He offers the listener a certain composition, and he has the right to accept the recommendation or refuse it. In fact, the service is far from always guessing, so in most cases it is easier not to study the new items, trying to separate the wheat from the chaff, but simply listen to what you like.

But if a new song has already fallen into any general list, you can be sure that it will have hundreds of thousands or even millions of fans. And the author will significantly increase the level of fees for music placed on the service.

Now Spotify continues to establish a system of communications with officials, and very well. The European Commission also favorably relates to the service, considering it useful. The ultimate goal of this interaction is to make the community of musicians, publishers and authors closer, reducing the number of complaints to each other.
