Store Coding: Hackathon Winners M.SMART

On June 2-3, M.SMART Hackathon, the world's first hackathon, took place in the existing hypermarket: 30 hours of brainstorming and coding were held in the M.Video store in the Hudson Shopping Center. That is, the development process could be followed by customers who came to the store. Moreover, the jury, in addition to experts in the field of innovation and IT from M.Video and FRIA, included sellers and buyers of the store. 115 participants applied for participation in the qualifying stage, 16 teams were selected for the internal stage of the hackathon.

The teams were faced with the task of finding the most interesting, creative, technological and useful way of applying the technologies of virtual and augmented reality in M.Video. Participants' projects were evaluated in three nominations: "Efficiency", "Impressions" and "Innovations".

In the " Efficiency " nomination, the service was won by the Easy Choice team, which allows using various augmented reality technologies to view various product modifications. Renting retail space is an expensive pleasure, besides, the range of “M.Video” products is so great that it is simply impossible to set up all the available models of goods. And thanks to the proposed service, a visitor can bring a smartphone to a product of interest - for example, a refrigerator - and immediately see the options in different colors or with different configurations.

In the “ Impressions ” nomination, he won a mobile consultant developed by the “Wrestlers Team (National Team of Higher School of Economics in Wrestling)”. The prototype was created based on ARKit. It operates on the following principle: if you hover your smartphone on the price tag, a detailed description of the product will appear with all the characteristics and reviews from other buyers. That is, having come to the store you will not have to search for information in search engines, you just need to “show” the price tags to your smartphone.

In the Innovations nomination, the ARMix team application won, which scans price tags, demonstrates 3D projections, and also shows on the smartphone screen how to navigate the store to the desired product using augmented reality. An ideal application for buyers who do not like to communicate with sellers. At the same time, this will free up consultancy time for communication with those customers who need “live” communication.

All three winning teams received 100 thousand rubles each. At a qualitative level of refinement and in the case of successful piloting, each of the projects can be implemented. Moreover, ARMix has already begun to conclude contracts for the pilot use of their development in 5 M.Video / Eldorado stores. At the same time, the company is discussing the prospects of cooperation with other teams, whose projects presented at the M.Smart Hackathon aroused sympathy of the jury.
