Pavel Durov: After the request of the ILV, Apple has blocked Telegram updates worldwide

While all platforms are testing a new way to access Telegram - MTPRoto Proxy, Apple decided not to participate.

According to Durov, the updates were blocked and now Telegram does not correspond to the GDPR.

In his Telegram channel, Pavel made the following statement:

Unfortunately, some Telegram functions, such as stickers, do not work on the new version of iOS 11.4, although we fixed this on our side a couple of weeks ago.

Apple does not allow to update Telegram to a new version in the App Store, from the moment Russia requested the removal of Telegram from the App Store. Russia blocked access to Telegram on its territory in April due to the fact that we refused to provide law enforcement agencies with all encryption keys to decrypt messages from all users. We believe that we made the right choice, keeping the privacy of our users in a troubled country.

Unfortunately, Apple did not support us. Although users are from Russia, this is only 7% of all Telegram users, but Apple has banned updates for all users around the world since mid-April. As a result, we also cannot fully comply with the law of the European Union on the protection of personal data of the GDRP, which came into effect on May 25, 2018. We continue to try to resolve the situation and will keep you on course.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

I have iOS, I want stickers and MTPRoto proxy! How to be?!?!
In the t.me/tgiostests group you can get a link (Pinned in the header) to the second version of the Telegram client for iOS - Telegram X, it can do a lot of interesting things:

  • MTPRoto Proxy
  • Streaming Video (without waiting for download)
  • It works a little faster
  • As stated by Paul - spends less battery

Note! This is a test version, updates come often and something may break in it.
