To the conference with Veeam: review of VeeamON 2018 and invitation to the VeeamON Forum in Moscow

Just a couple of weeks ago, the international conference VeeamON 2018, which was held in Chicago, ended. (Yes, yes, like in the movies: “Conference on new computer technologies and protection of computer programs!”)

VeeamON 2018 in Chicago


On the first day, the conference hosted Veeam partners. At the opening, President and CEO Peter McKay spoke about plans and prospects for the development of the Intelligent Data Management (“smart data management”) market, where Veeam presents a wide range of solutions - the Hyper-Availability Platform:



He added that for Veeam in 2017, the Net Promoter Score (users' tendency to recommend the product to their friends) was 75 points, which is 3.5 times higher than the industry average. This means that it is important for the company to maintain consumer confidence and a high level of software quality, and last year it was successful.

Ezra Charm, vice president of marketing for N2WS, recently joined Veeam, presented a review of a new solution for protecting VM in the cloud of AWS.

As always, the speeches of Vice-President for Product Management Anton Gostev ( theRealGostev ) were very popular, taking place in a format of dialogue with the audience and devoted to the subtleties of the development and work with products, as well as new products of the season.

On the second day, the conference hosted not only Veeam partners, but all the other participants.

There was great interest in the reports on how to ensure compliance with regulatory acts, including the famous GDPR, which has recently entered into force. Veeam speakers - Michael Cade, Mike Resseler and Mark Wong - talked about the best practices in this area, how they are used in various organizations.

At technical sessions, however, technologies and functional capabilities were described in more detail. Thus, well-known virtual laboratories will now be called Veeam DataLabs and can boast of much broader functionality than their ancestors Veeam virtual labs, which were released in 2010. Yes, and they are now used not only in Veeam Backup & Replication, but also in the new Veeam Availability Orchestrator.

The presentation of the new version of the Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 solution was made by Product Management Director Mike Resseler and R & D Project Manager Konstantin Yasyuk:

But, probably, the most attractive in the new release is the release of the free version of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 FREE Edition . The free edition will support all the functionality of the paid version, but with a number of restrictions:

On the final day of the conference, the apple had nowhere to fall on the speeches of Rick Vanover and Joe Marton, who presented the report "18 ways to prevent attacks by encryption viruses in 2018". They told about the scenarios for applying the “3-2-1” rule and how to protect user computers with Veeam Agents for Windows and Linux.

As always, the conference was attended by speakers from leading companies in the industry - Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Cisco, VMware, NetApp, IBM, Microsoft. They talked about the directions in which work is going on decisions, voiced perspectives and plans for the future.
