The Ministry of Finance asked to speed up the restriction of overseas online purchases

The government’s brave struggle continues with treacherous online shoppers who don’t want to carry money into domestic stores. The Ministry of Finance submitted to the federal portal of normative acts a draft law proposing from July 1 to reduce the purchase limit by half, to € 500 per person per month. Prior to this, according to the decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), they had to start restricting the importation of goods for individuals from January 1, 2019, and now they decided to speed up the program. You can read the Ministry of Finance’s new ideas here (it’s funny how many minuses on the site managed to get a proposal - for the last month, only the new law on the standard of primary general education and the draft on electronic signature are ahead of it).

Judging by the text of the document, an exception to the limit is given only for ethyl sleeps, alcoholic beverages and beer. They can be imported for any amount (there are restrictions on liters). And from January 1, 2019, the threshold of duty-free shopping will drop even more - to € 200 per person per month. If the amount is exceeded, a duty of 30% will be charged on everything “from above”. As the Ministry of Finance explains, this is necessary for “creating equal conditions for the import of goods”. Also, the gross weight of parcels per month should not exceed 31 kg per person (these restrictions remain unchanged).

Sign the law will be the chairman of the government Dmitry Medvedev. In early February, two months ago, he claimed that all countries of the Eurasian Economic Union agreed that up to € 500 a month will be cut only in January-2019.

The ACIT organization, which united the largest domestic online stores, and the heads of the Federal Customs Service, meanwhile, have since 2016 insisted on restricting foreign purchases for Russians to 22 euros per month.
